Our History

Galaxy Community Council

In 1988 Westover Air Reserve Base and Wing Commander, General Frederick “Mike” Walker were prepping for the arrival of the new C5 Galaxy aircraft – a much larger and louder aircraft.  Foreseeing that he would need the support of the surrounding communities to assist with public awareness and noise concerns, General Walker reached out to local government & civic organizations and business leaders.  It was the beginning of the Galaxy Community Council. To this day our mission remains very similar to when we started – public awareness and community outreach, bridging the gap between the Air Force and the community.
